19-Feb-2001 Markatron's commentary on Predacon leaders: TM2 Megatron and BW2 Galvatron

Beast Wars 2 Galvatron I wanted Beast Wars 2 Galvatron to look insane. I wanted to show his swords as well as his backpack "wing blades" lashing out at you. It took me several sketches to come up with this leaping pose. The problem was fitting all of him onto one page. He was taking up a lot of room without the claw-wings extended.

I drew straight from the toy. Thus no cape. The pose hid his drill well. I drew this on my larger 11"x 16" paper! It's pencil only. It took me a good 5 hours (and that's not counting the time to come up with the pose).

He reminds me a bit of Marvel's Silver Samurai. Maybe I lifted a pose from him subconsciously.

I overemphasized the chest shields -- stretched them out almost over his shoulders. The rest is perspective of him leaping out at you. Otherwise, his legs would be more massive than his arms.

If someone colors this, I'd request a little blood splatter flying off his wing-claws and sword-claws. >-}

Transmetal 2 Megatron I liked this sketch of Transmetal 2 Megatron. The pose was able to show off all his main features as well as deliver a level intimidation to the viewer. Sure, he's got the same maniacal expression as BW2 Galvy. But they're both different enough.

This too was done in pencil on my large sized paper. Since I don't have access to a scanner that can handle over legal size (8.5x13) I had to reduce this on the photocopier then scan it in. Much of the pencil's nuances are lost but you get the picture. :)

I didn't use screencaps, I drew this straight from the toy. Thus I could preserve all the precious detail of his assymetrical body.

In retrospect, I should have waved the pony-tail/dragon-tail a little more to the left so it cleared his left wing more. But I am very pleased with how his legs and dragon head came out.
