Homework for DIGITAL IMAGING 1 (Spr 2002)

Assignments executed in Adobe Photoshop 6.0

FINAL assignment: use at least 5 photos to construct a futuristic vehicle or weird animal.
I wanted to do a Transformer but that's just too many angles and parts.
So I settled on cobbling a futuristic fighter craft together. I got an "A" for the final and an "A" in the class.

Warning: LARGE IMAGES

Bits and pieces of these jets are somewhere in the composite below.

Fighter photos from Air Force archives photography.
Background is a photo of a (Canadian?) city from a weather satellite.

MIDTERM assignment: composite these 3 photos into any format (I'm glad I didn't pick a "TIME" magazine cover. There were FIVE "TIME" covers turned in!)

Pursuing a "Captain America" cover (why, oh, why didn't it hit me to do a G.I. Joe Cover?), I needed actual covers and pictures for a Captain America cover. (Sorry, I didn't have time to draw and color my own comic hero here!)

I integrated yet more pictures.

Teacher said a lot will be getting A's and B's so grading was rather easy. Still, I took a lot of time. The greatest effort was to match all the elements with the "sunrise" theme and turning everything into a darkened value and using mostly orange hues.

The Statue of Liberty is in the upper left-hand corner.
The bald eagle is an embossed emblem on his shield!

To say the least, I had a great time with this composite. I _HAPPILY_ put a lot of time and effort into this. This is what happens with proper motivation from a capable and competent teacher.

Fourth assignment: Suprise design

Unlike normal, see-this-do-this homework assignment. Our prof demonstrated some text techniqutes and said, "no homework". But we better be doing our "creative exploration" with photoshop because the next week, he would put a phrase on the board and we were supposed to turn it into something nice with these "text effects". We had ONE HOUR to complete this in class.

Unfortunately, my PC locked up half way into it but it was easy to recover and I came up with an original concept and a pretty good logo.

I quickly painted up a bell pepper cuz I had no idea what a chili pepper looked like!

Third assignment: colorize b/w

We were to take old stock advertizing photos and color them. Also, we were to add captions to the picture.

I know, I know, the dog didn't come out well at all.

Teacher liked the humerous caption. He commented about her having a big picnic basket full of burritos.

Second assignment: composite pictures

From a slew of stock photography, we were to create composite images. They were to look as natural as possible.

The second picture is a combination of a big bear (to our left) and two small bears in the way back on an snowscape with a single polar bear. Finally, the background sky and trees is a sunset from another image.

The front bear may be a bit too clean. But the blending of the tree/sunset on the snowscape came out really nice.

Originals

First assignment: 80 years from now?

The teacher took pictures of all of us for attendance. We all get a sheet of all our meg shots so we can identify each other. Our first assignment was to take our picture and manipulate it so we look some 80 years older!

The headlines came out a little harsher than I wanted, the cheek sags are not thin enough. Still, I got an A-

I look like my Uncle Hayworth!
