Markatron's Galleria - The Return of the Robot

From wandering across various distractions, I return to the true path:

The Return to Robots

In the early 90's Transformers had faded from the scene and I got into comic books. I switched to a superhero art form mimicking Image greats like Jim Lee, Marc Silvestry, and (yes, sorry) even Rob Liefeld (*hangs head in shame*).

Inspired by the G2 Comic book (by Marvel), I made several sketches of old G1 Autobot Cars. Early versions of Sunstreaker and an early Tracks.

Years later, I submitted three pieces of B/W inked art at the BotCon'99. These can be viewed in the BOTCON section of the Gallieria.

I've created quite a few "upgraded Transformers" during this period.
By this time I had gone thru my "anime" phase where Gundam and Five Star Stories really showed me just how to draw armored titans! So when I re-visited the "living robots-to-vehicles" concept. I wanted to pack them out with the armor and firepower of anime robots.
What you'll see are rounded corners and soft angled limbs. No more drawing with a ruler or stencils either. These are all freehand.

As time permits, I will keep updating this section with more robots.

A Transformer influence in the Star Trek universe

30-Aug-00

What if Star Fleet decided to go with a Transformer concept. Certainly with Voyager able to land on a planet, a more versatile starship could be called for. Now, certainly StarFleet would make smaller ships first, like transforming shuttle craft or "Runabouts". But a few years down the line, a multi-use starship could come into use. Throw in a bit of anime flare and voila, the StarFleet Titan!

The Titan's nacelles convert to a Macross style bridge-cannon by focusing energy in a directed static warp bubble. Forearm housings contain Quantum Torpedo turrets. Phaser strips line the kneecaps, shoulder, and torso. On each side of the head are science pods that can be swapped out for more specialized pods.

Of course, the Titan can convert to a more conventional star ship configuration typical of the Galaxy Class "warp drive section". This allows better use of the warp field for Warp 9.92 flight. (In humanoid mode, only Warp 8.0 can be achieved.) A "saucer section" may be docked with this mode. Saucer configurations include: civilian hospitality, science orbital station, observation array, and battle saucer.

The "battle saucer" is based on the Defiant Class vessel but with a very powerful shield generator. The Titan humanoid form can use the battle saucer as a shield. In either mode, the Titan connects with and can direct energy to the battle saucer to reinforce the saucers protection capabilities.

Showdown of Music: Blaster VS Soundwave!

04-Dec-99

Maybe you noticed when you entered the Jumpstation that you can now click the robot that greets you to my web page. You truly are welcome here and I want to really give you Transformer fans some treats.

And now, the showdown we've always loved. The showdown they should bring back!
Of course, I've put the typical Markatron spin on these classic characters. Enjoy!

Shockwave

24-Nov-99

My shot at Shockwave. My shockwave
Notice my upgrade Decepticon sigil on my guys. Pretty cool? I'll try to get a better scan. Funny, I never did customize an Autobot sigil. Oh well.
04-Dec-99 Sigil Update! I've recently drawn both sigils. They can be viewed on my Current Works page.

Pretender Ramjet

Pretender Ramjet

I drew a mini-sketch of the original for reference.
Following the Starscream Classic Pretender idea, I drew up my own for a second-generation Seeker. The 2-nd gen Seekers no longer resembled F-15 Eagles so I took liberties with his jet form.
I added some weapon schematics and various views of the jet form.

ENJOY!

14-Nov-99 Brace yourselves!
Prepare for the future... Comprehend this!

15-Aug-2001 Rescans loaded of the 5 'bots
01-Nov-99 I've upgraded Technobots with more armor and firepower!
10-Dec-99 I finally re-scanned them.

Heavy-Duty NOSE CONE I sketched the original then upgraded him. Slow but deliberate NoseCone has a new tunneler drill and additional augers. Provides heavy anti-aircraft support.
Heavy Artillery STRAFE Where NoseCone went anti-aircraft, Strafe went ground-assault. Brings the most weapons to bear in space fighter mode. Loves to swoop down with all guns blazing wildly. Specializes in delivering an incredible spread of piercing weapons.
Interstellar LIGHTSPEED LightSpeed's hope for flight has been granted in his new form. Can fly in both modes. Has triple-cannon firepower and carries small rocket packs.
Hyper Weapons AFTERBURNER The infamous Technobot hothead has even more dangerous weapons! Equipped with improved weapons and a gatling-action grenade side car
Extreme Barrage SCATTERSHOT Please don't make me draw him again! Old ship for reference. He's ready to take on Ultra-Galvatron now!
Scattershot: No he doesn't hate everyone, he just hates Decepticons worse. The raging leader of the Technobots strikes fear into any Decepticon as he dives headlong into battle with his dozens of guns blazing. The most heavily armed, he is a virtual battlecruiser. His "Yamato" main gun charges every 10 minutes to deliver an incredible swath of destruction that can be spread to brutally slag a group of Decepticons or focused to knock down even the toughest gestalt.

Sure, I think about doing a Computron from time to time. Can you imagine? Yikes!
When I get really ambitious, I will. Someday...

Also forthcoming! I recently found a few frames of a comic I was plotting out. It features the upgraded Technobots kicking on a Decepticon installation!

Ultra Galvatron
11-Nov-00 Ultra Galvatron in color! Click here to see J-Tron's colors!

30-Oct-99 Update! My "Ultra Galvatron" picture. It was inspired with the Super Megatron concept from the Japanese Star Convoy series.

I actually drew this a few years ago. To my elation, this piece sold at BotCon '99!

This Super Galvatron sub-section is repeated on the BOTCON page as well.
